On Saturday April 25th, we were joined by Judge John Zhuo Wang, Housing Judge in the New York City Civil Court, to discuss careers in law. Judge Wang shared his experience growing up in New York City with parents who immigrated to the U.S. from China with no more than twenty-five dollars. He walked the mentees through his experience making his college decision and challenging himself to go beyond his comfort zone socially. Judge Wang also touched on his transition from Vassar College to Brooklyn Law School, before beginning his career as a lawyer and court attorney. We ended the conversation discussing service to one’s community and the importance of mentorship throughout one’s professional career.

Judge Wang is currently a candidate for civil court judge in New York City District 1.

On Saturday April 18th, we had the privilege of being joined by Jun Wang for our third virtual career panel, focused on electrical and computer engineering. Jun is currently a Senior Software Test Engineer at Sonos with over eight years of experience in Hardware and Software Engineering with companies including Intel, Broadcom, and Sonos. Jun described his college experience as a first-generation student and how taking initiative to seek out resources and speak with professors can bear fruit. We touched on helpful skills for those interested in the field, along with the realities of on-the-job learning. There were also insightful tidbits on how to pursue your goals, while managing work-study and other commitments.

As the mentees continue to receive their decision letters and financial aid packages, The Foresight Project has held individual Zoom meetings upon request, in order to address any questions the Mentees may have as they review and compare packages. We are proud to see the Mentees be proactive and take steps to make informed decisions when it comes to their college transition.
