On February 6, The Foresight Project held a session focused on personal finance and wealth. Jonathan Hernandez, Director & Wealth Management Advisor at Northwestern Mutual, provided the students with an overview of how to responsibly budget in order to increase savings. Jonathan then discussed ways of responsibly investing one’s savings as a way of developing wealth. It was a fascinating topic, for students and mentors alike, and highlighted the benefits of starting to save at a young age. Lots to think about for the mentees, as they consider campus jobs and budgeting while in college.
On January 9, we reconnected with students from our very first cohort to see how they were progressing through their freshman year in a COVID environment. Cohort 1 then shared their experiences and insights with the Cohort 2 mentees. We’re extremely proud of how Cohort 1 has handled their first year in college in unprecedented times and grateful for their mature, honest advice for our current mentees.
It was a great way to commemorate National Mentoring Month!
On December 5, we were joined by Henry Goris, Vice President and Branch Manager at TD Bank (Queens, NY). Henry provided an insider’s perspective on best practices for personal finances, including how to responsibly use and build credit. The session also covered common pitfalls that can hurt one’s credit score and how to start thinking about saving and developing wealth from an early age.
