On May 8, we held a general check-in and follow-up after College Signing Day, which was May 1. The entire TFP family is proud of its seniors who have committed to various colleges for the coming school year. Congrats, Mentees!!
On April 3, several mentees had the opportunity to hear from current college students from a program called Budding Branches. Budding Branches is a volunteer service organization that has developed a network of college students volunteering to provide guidance to high school juniors and seniors on the college transition process. The students, who attend top schools including Williams, Harvard, and Yale, spoke about their experiences transitioning to college and touched on issues including campus culture, online resources, and wellness.
On March 6, we were joined by Reverend Doctor Shakeema North. Among her many roles advocating for youth, Pastor Shak is the Vice President of Youth Development, Equity and Inclusion at Covenant House New York. She discussed the history of higher education in America, and the role of race in its development. Pastor Shak highlighted how the needs of minority students too often go unaddressed on many college campuses and how that may correlate with a lack of diversity and inclusion efforts within college communities.
